The Bunyangabu District Returning Officer Evarist Twinomujuni says the election for male councilors representing workers in the district council could not continue as planned over a mix-up of photos and names of candidates.
The Electoral Commission - EC in Bunyangabu district has postponed
the election of district workers’ male councillor.
Today, different electoral colleges are participating in the election of councillors
representing Special Interest Groups – SGIs like the youths, Persons with
Disabilities, Workers and Older persons to district councils, across the
country.
But the Bunyangabu District Returning Officer Evarist Twinomujuni says the
election for male councillors representing workers in the district council
could not continue as planned over a mismatch of photos and names of candidates. The EC is yet to announce another date for the election.
Twinomujuni explains that the photo of Francis Kasigazi, the National
Resistance Movement – NRM party candidate, was put on the name of his
competitor and independent candidate Dan Muhumuza and vise-versa.
Kazigazi says the postponement automatically affects the candidates financially
since they will be going back to mobilize the electorate.
Gorret Kemanzi, a voter from Kiyombya Sub County, notes that the postponement
of the election is unfortunate, adding that it will affect their routine
activities.
The mismatch of details of candidates like symbols and names also happened
during the parliamentary election on Jan 14.
The photo of David Muhumuza, the National Resistance Movement – NRM candidate
was attached to the name and symbol of independent candidate Politazi
Mulimbanyi. Mulimbanyi’s photo was attached to Muhumuza’s name and bus symbol.
The election was held on Monday with new ballots that had the correct
information of the candidates.
