The National Resistance Movement - NRM L.CV primary elections at Musubiiro Village in Lwengo Sub County, Lwengo district have been cancelled after an election presiding officer in the area was beaten and wounded.

Eriya Kabigumira, the NRM election officer for Musubiiro village alongside five other people have been rushed to various health centers after they were badly beaten by club-wielding men who raided the polling stations.

According to eye witnesses, a group of youth armed with sticks raided the polling station on Friday afternoon and beat-up the presiding officer, accusing him of opening up the election before a substantial number of voters had gathered.

Sarah Namulema, one of the eyewitness accuses the incumbent L.CV Chairperson George Mutabaazi of instigating the election violence after he allegedly deployed vigilante groups. She explains that it started as an argument between Mutabaazi’s agent and the Presiding Officer before it progressed into physical fights in which the attacker overwhelmed the voters that attempted to secure the polling station.

Biafra Kalifaani and Leonard Mukasa, other voters at Musubiiro village who also witnessed the fracas say they could not proceed with the election amid the confusion.

According to them the same group of youth has been moving to different polling station in the area where they have caused confusion to scare away voters that do not support their candidate.

Kalifaano accuses Mutabaazi of ferrying a group of youth into the area to cause chaos during the election process by attacking his political opponent.

However, when contacted about the accusations of causing the fracas, Mutabaazi has denied arguing that he was instead in the field coordinating his polling agents.
