Elephants Destroy Crops in Rakai District

A rampaging herd elephants, is terrorizing Kakuuto Sub-County in Rakai District.

The elephants are suspected to have escaped from Imaramagambo forest, along the Uganda-Tanzanian border.

The Kakuuto Sub county chairman, Christopher Kalemba, says more than 13 elephants streamed into Kakuto village and destroyed several acres of banana plantations and maize crops.

Kalemba says the district veterinary department is working with Uganda Wildlife officials to chase the wild elephants across the border. He says the team would take action shortly.
