Elephants have trampled to death a 40-year old man in Nwoya
district. The deceased has been identified as Celestino Odongo, a resident of
The incident happened on Sunday evening from Koch Lii Sub County
three kilometers inside the Murchison National Game Park in Nwoya district
along the Karuma-Pakwach highway.
It is reported that the deceased was being carried by his nephew Dick
Ogwang on a Bajaj motorcycle registration number UEM 276 D when they rammed
into the herd of elephants.
In his statement to police in Anaka Central Police Station, Ogwang
says that he was overtaking a lorry when he rammed into the herds of elephants.
Ogwang disclosed that he dropped the motorcycle and fled for his life, however, it was late for Odongo to take off for safety since he had

Justine Odong, the Koch Lii Sub County Chairperson has regretted
the incident saying that elephants have over time posed the danger of deaths and
destruction of properties in the area.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson
told URN on Monday that a case of sudden death has been entered at Anaka
Central Police Station vide SD: 36/12/09/2021 adding that the body has been
taken to Anaka General Hospital.
