The Member of Parliament for Kyadondo South, Mike Ssebalu, has called on Uganda to emulate the Tanzanian electoral processes.
Ssebalu traveled to Tanzania last month as part of a team from the African Union sent to monitor the Tanzanian elections.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, the MP said that the Tanzanian Electoral Commission has developed into an independent, yet all-inclusive body. He noted that this has encouraged all Tanzanians, regardless of their political affiliation, to participate in elections without fear.
Ssebalu advised the Ugandan government to learn from the Tanzanian experience and appoint a High Court judge to head the Electoral Commission. He said a judge would serve impartially and would have adequate knowledge of the law to make appropriate decisions regarding the electoral process.
