Ex-official Ministers Sworn into Parliament

Ten out of the eleven ex-official Ministers were sworn into parliament on Thursday.

The Ex-officio are cabinet ministers, who are not Members of Parliament. The Constitution states that ex-officios must take an oath of allegiance before transacting any business in Parliament.

The Ex-officio ministers who have been sworn into Parliament include the Prime Minister, Apollo Nsibambi, Second Deputy Premier, Henry Kajura. Internal Affairs Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, Salim Saleh, Semakula Kiwanuka, Okello Oryem, Kasiirivu Atwooki, James Kinobe Ham Mulira, Sezi Mbaguta and Kagimu Kiwanuka.

The first Deputy Premier, Eriya Kategaya who is also an ex-officio was however absent from the swearing-in ceremony.

Speaking shortly after he was sworn-in, the Prime Minister, Apollo Nsibambi said that the opposition must be ready to cooperate with government, to solve the problems facing the country.

On his part, The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Ogenga Latigo, said that the opposition is ready to provide constructive criticism to government.
