A false media report has triggered off massive re-registration of former arrow boys militias in Teso for alleged payment of their terminal benefits.
The re-registration exercise kicked off this week in all the five districts in Teso following reports that appeared in Etop Newspaper that the Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima had ordered for the payment of former arrow boys.
Robert Adiama, the former counter-intelligence officer of the defunct arrow boy's militia has confirmed the re-registration, which he says is being conducted by local leaders.
According to Adiama, the arrow boys were paid all their terminal benefits during the time they were demobilized in 2007.
He says each demobilized arrow boy was paid 180,000 shillings while those who joined police and army were each paid 840,000.
Adiama explains that the families of the 123 arrow boys who were killed by the LRA rebels were each paid 480,000 shillings.
The army has warned that anyone found registering the former arrow boys will be arrested and arraigned in court.
Third Division Army Spokesperson, Capt. Henry Obbo, says official payment of the former combatants was concluded in 2007.
