The
family of a man who allegedly killed a Gulu University Student has abandoned
their home for fear of revenge.
Agnes Acayo, commonly known as the Auzu, a second-year student pursuing a
Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a resident of Dwol Cell, Laliya Ward, Pece
–Laroo Division in Gulu City was hacked to death on Friday morning by her
boyfriend -Alfred Ocan aged 50 after they picked a quarrel over money.
It is alleged that the duo who returned from a nearby drinking joint on
Thursday night picked up a fight over money but was separated by neighbors.
They resumed fighting a few hours later and locked themselves inside their
house.
Richard Button Acaye, the LCI Chairperson Dwol Cell, Pece –Laroo Division in
Gulu City revealed that Ocan hit Acayo’s head with an ax, killing her instantly
before he hanged himself on the ceiling frame using a rope. Police took the
dead bodies for postmortem at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary.
According to Acaye, the family members of the Ocan have since abandoned their
home for fear of a revenge attack by Acayo’s relatives.
He also added that police and the army have been deployed at the home to foil
any attempt of scuffle between the two family members.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the
incident saying a case of Murder by Assault was recorded at Gulu Central Police
Station under CRB 056/2022. And that postmortem is being carried out before the
bodies are handed over to the family members for burial.
