police carried out their investigations were turned away by the OC CID, Abim district.
Under the law, police are not allowed to keep suspects
beyond 48 hours without producing them in court, but in this particular case a juvenile was kept in the cells

Now, the distressed family is questioning the manner in which
the police handled the case.
Jimmy Ongom Achuda, the guardian of the girl expressed disappointment
and questioned the manner in which the case was handled. He made the comments
on Tuesday after securing an order from the Abim/Kotido Chief Magistrate, Nicholas

According to the court order, the police was ordered to release
the 16 year old teenager unconditionally.
“I write to order for the release for unconditional release
of the minor who are keeping in your custody without producing in the courts of
law as required by law,” reads part of the order that was issued this morning
from Abim Magistrates Court.
The release order was secured after the family contacted
lawyers from Uganda Law Society with the help of the Abim Senior Probation
Officer Daniel Alfred Okello who perused the case to its logical conclusion
today.
When the girl arrived to her home in Kiru town council it
was all tears of joy. The parents broke into tears as they welcomed the girl back but later shared their happiness with Uganda Radio Network.
Her guardian, Achuda said he has been praying for the deliverance
of the girl for the last one month after he discovered she needed deliverance
prayers.
For their part, police maintain they were keeping the girl in their custody for security reasons following her public testimony.
