Family of Man Killed in Madi-Okollo Over Land Dispute Living in Fear

The family of late Jacob Odrua in Madi-Okollo district is living in fear following attacks on their home.

Odrua, resident of Pajulu village, Kati parish in Ulepi sub-county was in July 2020 killed by a group of people from the neighbouring Vurra village.

Seven suspects were arrested and are facing murder charges while others are still at large.

However, the family of the deceased have raised concern about attempts by unknown people who are terrorizing their home over the same piece of land measuring 500 acres. The family say the suspects have continued to threaten their lives.

Last week, unknown people set ablaze a house belonging to Justine Ayikobua, a 30-year old son to the deceased, destroying property worth Five Million Shillings.

A case of Arson has been registered at Madi-Okollo Central Police Station under SDREF 20/22/02/2021.

The same group also looted properties including plastic chairs, tables, mattresses, two solar panels among other items from the home of Willington Anguandia, another son to the deceased.

Anguandia, says that some of the suspects have remained a source of insecurity to their family adding that he has reported some of the police officers he claims are frustrating their pursuit of justice to the Police professional standards unit  PSU but nothing much has been done.

Anguandia explains that the land wrangle started in 2013 when the group from Vurra village trespassed on their land with intentions of cutting trees for charcoal burning and timber.

Roy Rokoni the LCII Chairperson of Kati parish says he has failed in efforts to unite the two villages.

Brenda Namutunzi the District police commander of Madi-Okollo denied the allegations that the police in the district are frustrating the case.

On Tuesday, Paul Kedi, the Arua Grade One Magistrate ordered the police in Madi Okollo district to arrest the suspects who are still terrorizing the family of the deceased.

Late Jacob Odrua had filled a civil suit over the land conflict before his death.
