A father in Buyende district is in trouble for allegedly selling off his three-year-old son for ritual sacrifice. The suspect is Anthony Ssebukera, a resident of Kibaale village in Kidera Sub County.

He is accused of selling Fred Gamba to Abdul Kitamba, a renowned witchdoctor in Buyende district on December 15th, 2019 at Shillings 400,000 for ritual sacrifice.

Ssebukera was paraded before journalists on Tuesday morning following his transfer from Kasese district where he had fled to.

Gamba’s mother, Olivier Naibilo says Ssebukera who disappeared in December last year showed up on January 1st, 2020 and confessed to have teamed up with four other people to sacrifice his child.

She said Ssebukera fled their home the following day after making the confession, which prompted her to inform police.

Shaban Mukalu, the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Department at Buyende Central Police Station, says ssebukera has confessed to the crimes is awaiting prosecution.

He says a team of police officers have been assigned to hunt for the remaining suspects still at large.

Mukalu attributes the delayed arrest of the suspect to attempts by Naibilo to cover up her husband’s crime.

“We have registered progress in this case thanks to the community, who forced Naibilo to file a case with us,” he says.

He however, says they haven’t recovered the deceased’s remains because Ssebukera claims he was away when the burial took place.
