Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party chairperson Wasswa Birigwa has criticized Acholi MPs for taking offense with Winnie Byanyima, over her role in a murder case involving her nephews Mathew and Joseph Kanyamunyu.

Byanyima, the Executive Director of Oxfam International and wife to former Presidential Candidate Dr Kizza Besigye, early this week stood surety for the two Kanyamunyu brothers who are facing trial over the death of a social worker Kenneth Akena in Lugogo last year.

Akena was reportedly shot by Mathew Kanyamunyu in vengeance for a scratch on his car.

But Aruu North MP Samuel Odonga Otto, Kitgum municipality MP Beatrice Atim Anywar and Kilak county MP Gilbert Olanya expressed anger at Byanyima's move saying her representation was a betrayal to the people of northern Uganda, a region where Dr Besigye has enjoyed massive support over the years.  They said they were as a result quitting the party.

Birigwa told journalists in Kampala that emotions on either side cannot be controlled because both Odonga Otto and Winnie Byanyima are fighting for justice on behalf of their relatives.  He adds that the decisions for the two leaders do not represent a position of the party.

Birigwa however adds that both sides needed to be sensitive to each other. He says FDC is working towards resolving the dispute between the two parties.
