FIFA Officials to Inaugurate FUFA Premier League

Two officials from the world football governing body, FIFA, will be in Uganda this week to supervise the process of amending the FUFA constitution and also inaugurate the FUFA Premier League.

Mujib Kasule, the FUFA Vice President in-charge of the League told Uganda Radio Network on phone that FIFA officials are expected in the country on Wednesday to supervise the constitutional amendment General Assembly slated for August 25 in Kampala. Kasule says the officials will also meet several stakeholders and sponsors of the Ugandan League including Uganda Breweries Limited and SuperSport before the General Assembly.

Early this year the world football body said Ugandan football was facing problems because their constitution had lots of loop holes and was not in-line with the FIFA requirement. In June FIFA officials including Primo Carvaro and Nicholas Valticos travelled to Uganda and discussed with several stakeholders and the Federation so that the new constitution could be made in-line with FIFA.

Among some of the amendments to be made will be to reduce the powers of the FUFA President, reduce the number of delegates from 148 to 83 and also have the League managed under a different body run by the 16 top clubs. The FIFA officials will also inaugurate the new FUFA Premier League, according to Kasule. Previously the Uganda League has been run by a private body Uganda Super League Limited (USLL).

However, as FUFA hold the General Assembly to amend the constitution and also have a new body run the league, USLL has gone ahead to release a fixture to show that they are the ones in-charge. The visit by the FIFA officials will be timely as it will prove which body will have the powers to run the League.

But USLL spokesman James Raymond Ssekandi told URN that they are continuing with their preparations to have the League kick-off since they have even the TV schedules with SuperSport.
