The President of the Federation of International
Football Associations (FIFA), Gianni Infantino will grace the Total African
Nations Championship (CHAN) 2020.
Infantino arrived in Yaounde, Cameroon on Friday morning ahead
of the tournament which runs in Cameroon January 16th to February 7th.
The FIFA President later attended an Executive meeting
of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and also met the President of
Cameroon Paul Biya.
Infantino is expected to watch the opening match on
Saturday between hosts Cameroon against Zimbabwe at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium
The CHAN tournament for home-based players in Africa
was meant to take place last April but was postponed due the Coronavirus
(COVID-19) pandemic that affected most sporting events around the world.
Uganda Cranes will be making their fifth appearance in
the tournament which will attract 16 teams and runs January 16th to
February 7th in three cities of Yaounde, Doula and Limbe.
Uganda Cranes are pooled in Group C alongside Rwanda,
Togo and reigning champions Morocco.
Group A: Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Mali, Burkina Faso
Group B: Libya, Niger, DR Congo, Congo
Group C: Morocco, Togo, Rwanda, Uganda
Group D: Zambia, Tanzania, Guinea, Namibia
