Fifteen Abducted Persons Charged in Kakiri Court Martial

Fifteen people who were abducted by armed men in numberless minibus commonly referred as drones from have appeared before the UPDF court-martial sitting in Kakiri barracks in Wakiso district on military-related offences. 

The suspects are Godfrey Maganda, Moses Kibirango, Joseph Kigozi and Jude Ssemanda, all from Butale Busawula. The others are Jimmy Katabaazi and Hamid Abas from Nkumba Bendegere, Isma Ssozi, a mechanic from Makerere Kivulu and Steven Mukasa from Bwaise. 

Others are Jude Ssemanda, Shafiq Kasozi, Hannington Kibirige, Ashraf Luyombya and Joseph Kisuki from Budaka district.  The suspects were arraigned before the Kakiri court-martial, which was closed to journalists.  

Wakiso District LC 5 Chairperson, Matiya Lwanga Bwanika had gone to Kakiri barracks in the search of Cyrus Kasaato, one of the councillor elects who went missing a week and half ago and was shocked to find the group appearing before the military court.

Addressing journalists, Bwanika called upon the relatives of the suspects to approach the army court with relevant documents to process bail for them.

He, however, couldn’t tell the exact charges slapped on the accused, who have since been remanded to Kitalya prison. Councilor Cyrus Kasaato, who managed to make bail, told a sad story of torture during his time in military detention. 


Kasaato says that just like the other people he found in Makindye and other military facilities where he was taken, he was subjected to daily torture.
