Kampala metropolitan Deputy Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said that 50 suspects were picked up in one bar called Garage located in Ntinda-Kigowa zone Nakawa division in the ongoing night operations of raiding bars that are still operating.
At least 50 people are detained in police cells in Ntinda after they were arrested drinking in a bar last night in total contravention of the
Ministry of Health guidelines against the spread of coronavirus.

operations of raiding bars that are still operating.

Yoweri Kaguta Museveni acting on advicefrom the ministry of health last year declared a 6pm and 9pm curfew for motorcyclists and drivers
respectively and all entertainment as well as leisure places like bars, discos
and music closed.
“We arrested about 50 people and they are currently
detained at different stations in the division, they were found drinking inside bars, Police will not hesitate to arrest any suspects found
violating stipulated guidelines," said Owoyesigyire”.
Over
the weekend, police conducted similar night operations in Nansana, Makindye,
Natete and Namugongo, Kira and Mukono areas. According to police, a total of
1,100 suspects were arrested in 36 bars.
Police
says that all suspects arrested will be produced in courts of law on offences
of doing a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease.

On Sunday the government announced
several measures including closure of schools, suspension of religious
gatherings and transport between districts, for about 42 days.

in place to curb the spread of the virus with immediate effect.
