A FINCA microfinance, Fort Portal branch accountant has been arrested and detained at Fort Portal police station on allegations of embezzling 38 million shillings.
32 –year- old Samuel Saasa is a resident of Kabundaire cell in West division Fort Portal municipality.
According to Laurence Okello the Criminal Investigations Boss (CID) Fort Portal police station, Saasa Samuel was arrested by police on 24th January 2013 after his employer Fred Musinguzi the regional manager FINCA Uganda reported the matter to police.
He says that manager lodged a complaint and opened a case file at police accusing Saasa the accountant of mismanagement that cost the company money worth 38million shillings.
Okello says that the management on realizing that the money was missing carried out an audit exercise and they were shocked to find that shs38m was being embezzled.
According to police investigations, the said money disappeared accounts directly the responsibility of Saasa.
It was found that Saasa provided the company with bank slips indicating that the money was banked to Stanbic bank on Sundays when the banks do not operate on Sundays as he alleges.
The CID says that investigations have been completed and Saasa’s file is to be taken to CID’s headquarters in Kampala for further interrogation.
Okello reveals that the suspected accountant will be transferred to Kampala with his file and after facing the CIDs, he will appear before the anti-corruption court to answer the alleged charges of embezzlement.
