Fire Guts Rwashamaire Primary School Boys Dormitory

The fire reportedly started at around 3:00 pm on Monday when all the pupils were in class.

Fire has gutted a Boys’ dormitory at Rwashamaire Home Care Primary School in Rwashamaire town council in Kajara county of Ntungamo district.

The fire reportedly started at around 3:00 pm on Monday when all the pupils were in class.

Sources at the school indicate that the fire could have started from loose wires within the dormitory which accommodates 110 pupils.

Isaiah Mujuni, the School Director says that the fire started when the teachers were busy in-class teaching. He adds that the fire was put out by the residents who used sand and water to restrain the fire before police fire brigade arrived from Ntungamo.   

Mujuni says that the fire destroyed school structure and property of the pupils worth over 200 million shillings.

Jovia Kamusiime a parent at the school says that she was called by a teacher that all his son’s belongings were completely destroyed.

Ntungamo District Inspector of Schools Fred Bahati says that together with the police they are investigating the cause of the fire.
