Fire has gutted Kira Road Police barracks.
Moses Acaye, the Kira Road Officer in charge of Operations says that the fire broke out at 2:00 am. No casualties were reported.
“There was a small fire that started at night and we struggled with it. I was in the field and the fire broke up at around 2 am. And I was monitoring it from our communication line but I don't think it was a serious thing as such. So there were no injuries caused,” Acaye said.
URN reporter was denied access to the scene as the Divisional Police Commander –DPC Michael Kasigire insisted that accessing a police barracks would require clearance by the police spokesperson.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and details of the damage are still scanty.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the fire brigade responded on time and stopped the fire from spreading.
"We were able to stop it before it spread to other structures," Owoyesigyire said.
Detectives from the Fire and Rescue Service Directorate are at the scene to try and establish the exact cause of the fire.
