Fire Guts UGX 150 million Furniture Store in Katabi

The Police fire brigade from Entebbe Police Station arrived 40 minutes later, long after the fire had spread. By the time it arrived, rescuers were using basins and water pipes to put out the fire, in vain. However, the Police firefighting truck put out the fire within 20 minutes after arrival.

A fire has gutted a furniture store at Kitala in Katabi Town Council along the Kampala-Entebbe road destroying goods worth 150 million Shillings. The store had A collection of beds, sofa sets, tables and other items.  

Edward Miiro, one of the traders whose merchandise was destroyed said the fire broke out suddenly, at around midday. Miiro, who lost about 2000 pieces of timber suspects that it was triggered by petrol and other lubricants used in the workshop.

Vianney Tensumulule, the owner of the Furniture store says his hopes now remain in his insurance partner to immediately return to business.  

Godfrey Mugerwa, the LC 1 Chairperson for Kitala cell says residents and business owners should always be mindful of the instruments and lubricants they keep within their homes and stores.
