Hundreds of mourners gathered at Nsenyi Catholic Parish in Kisinga sub-county, Kasese district to witness the sending off of the first Mukonzo Catholic priest the Late Rev.Fr. Msgr. Augustino Muhindo on Thursday afternoon.

The 93 year-old retired priest died on Monday night at Kilembe Mines Hospital in Kasese Municipality where the doctors declared that he had succumbed to pneumonia.

The holy mass for Msgr. Muhindo's burial was led by the Bishop of the Kasese Catholic Diocese Rt. Rev. Egidio Nkaijanabwo who was also the chief mourner.

He was buried at the exact spot of his ordination 55 years ago just outside the Nsenyi Catholic Church-the first to be established in Kasese.

Bishop Nkaijanabwo described the longest serving priest in Kasese as a special gift to the church because his service has been inspirational to all the clergy and the laity.

Nkaijanabwo said that the late Msgr. Muhindo has been a man who served God with a purpose of drawing Christians in the way of Jesus Christ.

Speaking a day before his burial, the parish priest of Nsenyi Rev. Fr. Laurent Bahati Bwambale who stayed with him during his retirement, said Muhindo had taught him a lot about the priestly calling and service.

The Kasese district chairman Lt. Col. Mawa Muhindo said that Msgr. Muhindo left the worldly life about two months before the local government would recognize his efforts in contributing to the development of the district.

Col. Mawa told mourners that the district leadership had included the Late Msgr. Muhindo on the list of the historicals who will be given special recognition on May 1, during the district's celebrations to mark the International Labour Day. His certificate of recognition will now be handed to the Bishop.

He said that Monsignor Augustine was to be honored during the Labor Day celebrations on May 1 and that his certificate will be given to the bishop.

At the opening of the district council session on Thursday morning, Speaker Mr. Zephanus Mubingwa ordered for a moment of silence in respect of the departed priest.

Kasese woman Member of Parliament Ms Winfred Kiiza laid the wrath on the casket on behalf of all the MPs hailing from the district.
