Five Abducted Women Recovered

“It is unfortunate, this information reached to us late as security we did what we can at that moment. Good enough those women were released by the warriors alive, thanks to God,” said Longole in a statement on Saturday night. He called on the community to be vigilant by reporting such incidents or any crime immediately to security agencies.
Five women abducted by Karamojong warriors last week have finally been released by their abductors. The Mt. Moroto Regional Police Spokesman, Michael Longole, says that the warriors released five women on Saturday morning.

However, police have neither released the identities of the women nor disclosed where they were being held by their abductors. The five mothers were abducted from Narisae in Lorengedwat Subcounty in Moroto district on August 30th, 2021.

“It is unfortunate, this information reached to us late as security we did what we can at that moment. Good enough those women were released by the warriors alive, thanks to God,” said Longole in a statement on Saturday night. He called on the community to be vigilant by reporting such incidents or any crime immediately to security agencies.

“This situation calls for community vigilance and avoiding isolated places, which could be a hideout for these warriors. Security forces may not be everywhere, you need to mind your personal security as an individual before visiting some of those places,” the Regional Police spokesperson said.

Although the five women have been recovered “safe”, the ten-year-old girl abducted by suspected Matheniko warriors on Aug 31st, 2021 is yet to return. According to security reports, warriors have regrouped mainly in the areas of Moroto, Kitido and Kaabong.  Security agencies have recovered up to 70 guns following a fresh disarmament exercise launched in Karamoja.
