Five Arrested in Lugazi By-Elections

Five people have been arrested in Lugazi town council for electoral malpractices.

Alfred Bitwire, the Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police says that the five, were picked up from Kikawuula, Lugazi one and Kabowa villages.

Bitwire, who identifies one of the suspects as Ali Muwoma, says that the suspects were found bribing voters and campaigning for different candidates during the elections.

Bitwire does not however state whether the suspects will be charged or set free after the polls.

Meanwhile traders at Kinyoro market have closed their shops for fear of riots.

Charles Damba a market vendor in Kinyoro market says they can not continue with their business until the results are announced. He says the previous elections in Lugazi ended in riots; leading to severe loses for the traders.

John Asea of DP, Deo Tumwesigye NRM and Aluma Yahya Massa of UPC are contesting the polls.

Other candidates include Martin Draga , Musoke Ahmed Muwonge and Edward Musoke. The Former Lugazi Mayor Hajji Said Mubarak died in a motor accident last year.
