Gulu Court Remands Five Arson Suspects

Julius Mwesigye, the Gulu grade one magistrates court didnt allow the suspects to enter any plea, saying his court lacks jurisdiction over the matter.
Court in Gulu has remanded five people accused of arson, which claimed the lives of five people in Nwoya district on Thursday last week. The suspects appear this morning before the Grade One Magistrate, Julius Mwesigye.

They include David Lakony, a prominent Gulu businessman, Charles Olanya, Moris Opiyo, Santos Oryema and Okot Patrick Ayweri. They were charged with murdering Kennedy Oketayot alias Wod Aceng, Agnes Apiyo, Rebbeca Nyapolo, Gumkura Jonathan and Laker Angel Lucky.

Court heard that on Thursday last week, the suspects set ablaze the house in which, the five family members were sleeping in Kal Village in Koch Goma Sub County that claimed their lives. Julius Mwesigye, the Gulu grade one magistrate's court didn't allow the suspects to enter any plea, saying his court lacks jurisdiction over the matter. 

He remanded the suspects to Gulu Prison until January 18th, 2017 when the case will come up for mention.
