Five Smugglers Arrested in Bushenyi

 Police in Bushenyi are holding five suspected smugglers.

The suspects all Rawndese nationals were arrested on Thursday in Rwenjuru ward in Bushenyi –Ishaka municipality.

Joab Wabwire, the District police commander, says the suspects hired a room in Rwenjuru trading center. They used the room to store smuggled goods that included saucepans, plates and dishes.

The suspects are; Bosco Ndagajimana from Kyanika Burera, Jean De Dieli ofKagogo, Emmanuel Ruradusenge from Kagogo, Gasperd Ndagize and GeraidNgusengimana also from Kagogo.

He said that residents of Rwenjuru became suspicious about the activities of the suspects and decided to report the matter to police, leading to their arrest.

The confiscated goods are being kept at the police station.

URA officials have also entered the matter and are demanding taxes from the five suspects.

The DPC however says that the suspects have genuine travel documents, but they still have a case to answer related to their suspected smuggling activities.

They will be taken to court soon to answer charges of smuggling goods from Rwanda to Uganda.
