5 Suspected Robbers Arrested in Kitgum

Five suspected robbers are in police custody in Kitgum district after being arrested in Tuesday night operations. 

Jackson Baryampika, Kitgum district Police commander identified the suspects as Joseph Kidega, Patrick Aboyi, Rooney Komakech, Michael Okot Tulaya and Isaac Okellokot. 

The suspects were found with items including stolen drugs, laundry soap and several household items. 

Baryampika says two pairs of military uniforms were recovered from the house of Joseph Kidega, a resident of Lagoro Sub County, located more than 30 kilometres South East of Kitgum town.

William Komakech, the chairperson district security committee, says police trailed the suspects for more than a week. He says the suspects belong to an armed gang of robbers known as Oloya's Group believed to be in possession of five illegal guns.

Security accuses that gang of a string of robberies in which three people have died and scores injured. 

Eager to proclaim its success at tracking criminals, Police this morning paraded the five suspects at the resident district commissioner's office. 

Kitgum district chairperson Jackson Omona says some of the gang groups terrorising the district are recruiting juveniles to execute their missions.

The five suspected robbers were paraded alongside three young women nabbed with stolen items. They are Barbara Akello, Missy Atimango and Nancy Aber. The women were picked up from Pandwong Division.

Police said the suspects will face charges ranging from theft to robberies when investigation are complete.
