Flags at Tanzania High Commission Fly at Half-Mast to Mourn Magufuli

Magufuli 61 was announced dead by the country's Vice President Hassan Samia Suhulu in a televised address on Wednesday. Magufuli who passed away at a hospital in Dar es Salaam was missing in public for weeks.

The Tanzanian and East African Community flag at the Tanzania High Commission in Kampala are flying at half-mast following the death of President John Pombe Magufuli. 

Magufuli's death was announced by Vice President Hassan Samia Suhulu in a televised address on Wednesday. Magufuli 61 who passed away at a hospital in Dar es Salaam was missing in public for weeks.

The mood at the High Commission at Clement Hill Road is sombre as some Tanzanian nationals express sympathy for the death of Magufuli.

The High Commission is also organizing a condolence book, while other protocol-related matters are still being organized according to sources in the embassy.   

An embassy staff says that they got to know about the death of the President on Wednesday night. 

The Tanzanian High Commissioner to Uganda Dr Aziz Ponary Mlima arrived at the Embassy at 10:00 am, but did not speak to journalists. 

Denis Majura, a Tanzanian that URN reporter spoke to said it was sad that they had lost a hero who has fought for Tanzania. 

“The death is shocking and unbelievable, Magufuli has been a man of action and many Tanzanians were glad for that,” he said.

Dignitaries were yet to arrive at the embassy to condole with the staff at the Embassy.
