The family of the Resident District Commissioner Kotido Peter Logiro last evening survived being swept by a raging river in Napak district.

The incident happened at Lokichar Bridge along Moroto-Kotido road as they returned to Moroto from Kotido, some 35 kilometers from Moroto town. However, the RDC was not with them at the time of the incident. An eye witness says the driver could have underrated the strength of the water as he crossed through the fierce river.

At the scene, One Lokol narrated that the car stopped midway through the running water at the Irish bridge. He adds that residents camping at the bridge struggled to rescue the family which was stuck in the car. He notes that unspecified property was swept away by the flash floods.

Mark Musooka, the District Chairman Moroto tells Uganda Radio Network that he received a call immediately asking him to rescue the RDC’s family. He describes the incident as unfortunate saying the rain in the sub region is disastrous and adds that if the downpour continues, life would become unbearable.

//cue in:  “Mr. Logiro,

Cue out:    .climate change.”//

Nahaman Ojwee, the RDC Napak advises travellers to Karamoja to be cautious of the flooded spots. He adds that motorists should make use of the communication technology to establish what lies ahead at all times.
