Simon Ebetu, a member of the former Arrow Boys Militia Group in Teso is collecting signatures for his nominations to challenge President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2021 general elections.

Ebetu, 39 who hails from Amuriat district served as a medical officer of the defunct Arrow Boys militia that was established in the early 2000s to flash the rebel Lord Resistance Army-LRA from Teso Region. He is among the 58 aspirants who have shown interest to run for the presidency in 2021 general elections.

Ebetu intends to contest as an independent and is currently traversing Acholi Sub Region to gather signatures from not less than 100 registered voters in each district as required by the Electoral Commission for his nomination.

He told URN in an interview in Gulu on Sunday that he has embarked on a journey to restore sanity in the country. He explained that his intention is to unify the nation, fight corruption, build the economy, reinstate cooperative unions and ensure the compensation of war claimants.

Ebetu explained that the lack of immunity to power holders in the country after leaving office is responsible for the overstaying of some leaders for fear of being exiled or attacked. This he says has made the country go through violent transition of power since independence. Asked whether he trusts the Electoral Commission, Ebetu said he is truly contented with the operations of the electoral body.
