Hoima Police are investigating Jonan Atuhura, the former Principal Private Secretary to the Omukama of Bunyoro Kitaara Kingdom for alleged abuse of office. Atuhura was picked up by the Police Flying Squad from his residence at Kihomboza village outside Hoima town on Sunday.

Police also impounded his Toyoto premio vehicle registration number UAW 315F, a laptop and recovered unspecified documents following a search of his premises.  Atuhura was locked up at Hoima Central Police Station where he is still in custody.

Ronnie Waiswa, the Albertine Region Police Commander, says Atuhura is wanted for abuse of office. He explains that the suspect has spent beyond the mandatory 48 hours in the police cells because investigations into the allegations leveled against him are still ongoing.

On Wednesday, Atuhura's family tried to engage Hoima Police to release him on bond in vain, since the matter involves their superiors.  The Bunyoro Prime Minister, Norman Lukumu has called for thorough investigations in the matter that he, says has triggered tension in the cultural institution.

Trouble for Atuhura started after he was sacked for allegedly announcing that the Omukama of Bunyoro, Solomon Gafabusa Iguru had reshuffled his cabinet and appointed Harriet Businge Mugenyi as first deputy Prime Minister, the first woman to hold the position in the history of the monarch.

The document reportedly circulated by Atuhura also showed that the King had also sacked eight cabinet ministers and appointed Uganda's first Deputy Prime Minister, Henry Muganwa Kajura as his advisor on palace affairs. The said reshuffle, which sparked tension in the Kingdom, has since been denounced by the palace.
