Edward Oonya Akonopesa, the former Kaberamaido Resident District Commissioner is appealing for financial assistance to bail him out of Kumi Orthopedic Hospital.

Oonya, who abandoned his job last year to contest in the National Resistance Movement primary elections for the Kumi County parliamentary seat was involved in a motorcycle accident on January 31st, 2021 while collecting information on the presidential elections in Anyara Sub County.

Oonya fractured his right leg and has since been bed ridden. He was treated at Kumi Orthopedic Hospital and is battling with a bill of Shillings 21 million.  According to Oonya, he has only managed to raise Shillings 11 million and is stuck on how to raise the balance.

The NRM diehard says that his pleas for financial assistance to the president's office have not received any attention. He appeals to the government to support Kumi Orthopedic Hospital in order to reduce the costs of treatment, which he says is costly for a local person.

Esther Apunyo, a sister who is acting as caretaker for Oonya says the situation of her  brother is fair compared to when he was admitted and she calls upon the general public to give a hand since the family alone cannot manage to clear the bills.

Oonya first resigned from RDC position in Serere for 2016 election when he lost to Charles Ilukor. He was reappointed and transferred to Kaberamaido, a position he held until NRM primaries in September 2020.
