A Health Worker at Byansi Clinic told URN on condition in anonymity that Ssemwogere went to the facility on Tuesday morning for a health checkup. He however, says they were surprised when his employees rushed him to the same facility in the evening after suffering a heart attack.
The Former Masaka mayor Gerald Ssemwogerere is dead. Ssemwogerere 83, succumbed to heart-related complications from Byansi Clinic on Tuesday evening.
A Health Worker at Byansi Clinic told URN on condition in anonymity that Ssemwogere had visited the facility on Tuesday morning for a health checkup but was rushed back by his employees in the evening after suffering a heart attack.
Godfrey Kayemba Afayo, the incumbent Mayor Masaka Municipality says that the deceased worked tirelessly to develop Masaka, which suffered destruction during the 1979 Tanzanian invasion.
According to Kayemba, although Ssemwogerere wasn’t elected by the public, he was instrumental in improving service delivery and development in the war torn town.

Some of the residents of Masaka Municipality say Ssemwogerere who owns several businesses and buildings in Masaka town has played a very vital role in providing employment to young people.
Ssalongo Kayinga Kiggundu, a resident says Ssemwogereres’ schools have helped to improve education service delivery in Masaka town and the entire region.

Kayinja Tomusange who served as the Nyendo Parish councillor during Ssemwogerere’s tenure says that he was honoured for his service as a leader.
He says even after leaving office Ssemwogerere continued to serve Masaka municipality in various as an investor and inspired several people to invest in Masaka town.
Ssemwogerere has been the proprietor of Ssese Corner building, Lugave house, St. Gerald Vocational Secondary school and Mogas Pump fuel station in Masaka town.
Preparations are underway to lay his remains at his ancestral grounds in Kalangala.
