The former minister shocked the people of Lango when he picked nomination forms for the newly created Otuke East Constituency member of parliament under independent ticket after declaring that he will not be seeking to hold any elective position.
He will be facing Hon. Fr. Jacinto Ogwal, contesting under the UPC Ticket and Hon. Julius Acon Bua, the incumbent under National Resistance Movement- NRM Party.
Former Minister for Lands Housing and Urban
development, Hon. Daniel Omara Atubo has joined the parliamentary race for the Otuke East County. The constituency has been curved from the original Otuke County, creating Otuke East and West constituencies.
Hon. Omara Atubo was in parliament
representing the people of Otuke since 1987, joined the Constituent Assembly in 1994 and continually served in Parliament until 2011, when he lost his seat to Fr Jacinto Ogwal. Atubo also served as a Minister of Lands in the NRM government.
Early this year, the former minister declared that he
would not be taking any elective position in the country.
However, on September 18, 2020, Atubo shocked the people of Lango when he picked nomination forms for the
newly created Otuke East Constituency.
He will be facing Hon. Fr. Jacinto Ogwal, contesting
under the UPC ticket and Hon. Julius Acon Bua, the incumbent under National
Resistance Movement- NRM Party.
Atubo says his manifesto will focus on eradicating poverty, uplifting
the already low level of education, fighting corruption and improving on the
qualities of roads within the district.
Omara Atubo says the poor leadership exhibited by his
predecessors has forced him to change his mind about elective positions.
//Cue in; “I had expected…
Cue out… of the people.”//
He says he has no problem working with the NRM government.
“A member of parliament is already part of government
so by being in parliament I’m already working with government
and you see you cannot continue to be a praise singer of a leader where there are
problems you must point them out," he added.
Omara Atubo boasts that the 11th parliament is a
unique one which requires leaders with vast experience and knowledge like him.
He said the electorates must be keen on who they will vote for in the next
//Cue in; “The next parliament…
Cue out… to be there.”//
Like most opposition politicians, Omara Atubo
cautioned political parties against exercising bad politics and violence
attributing it to the downfall of the UPC government.
//Cue in; “The foundation of…

On the other hand, Hon. Julius Acon Bua, the current
member of Parliament and a former national athlete acknowledges that the race will not be an easy one but is
optimistic the people of Otuke will vote him back.
//Cue in; “You see if…
Cue out… also not new.”//
Fr. Jacinto Ogwal also made it clear that he will emerge victorious
come the 2021 general elections.
