Former Minister Omach To Head UNRA Board

Former State Minister for Finance, Fred Jachan Omach has been appointed Chairperson of Uganda National Roads Authority Board of Directors.

Former State Minister for Finance, Fred Jachan Omach has been appointed Chairperson of Uganda National Road's Authority Board of Directors.

Omach was State Minister for Finance In charge of General Duties until the recent cabinet reshuffle. He took oath together with six members of the new Uganda Road's Authority Board of Directors administered by Justice, Lawrence Gidudu on Tuesday.

Also present were Works and Transport Minister, Monica Ntege and State Minister for Works, General Katumba Wamala. His seven-person board takes over from one previously headed by Angella Kiryabwire.

Jachan Omach representing Jonam County Nebbi District in Parliament from 2001-2016 when he lost the constituency to FDC's Emmanuel Ongiertho. Omcah also served as one of Uganda's Representatives to Pan African Parliament. 

Omach had a long career in the the Banking industry before joining elective Politics in 2001. He wasGeneral Manager with the defunct Uganda Commercial Bank. 

He takes over the UNRA job at the time when it is yet to recover from the rot unearthed by the Justice Catherine Bamugemeriwe probe.

Also on the new UNRA Board of Director is Dr. Umaru Bagampadde, renowned Civil Engineer. Dr.  Bagampadde has over 25 years of experience in the civil engineering practice.

He has been involved in a number of projects managing the implementation and construction of roads. He is also a Member of Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers.

Engineer Samson Bagonza also took oath as another member of the Board representing Ministry of Works and Transport.

Bagonza working as the Government Chief Engineer was in 2010 sentenced by Justice John Bosco Katutsi to three years in jail for allegedly causing a financial loss amounting to Shs1.6 billion during the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of State Meeting (Chogm). The Court of Appeal later set him free after he appealed against the sentence.

Also on the Board is the Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister, Dr Joseph Muvawala. Dr Joseph Muvawala will represent National Planning Authority.The Ministry of Finance and economic Development will be represented by Mr. Laban Mbulamuko.

Mbulamuko previously served as one of the Board members of Uganda Export Promotion Board. The Private Sector is represented by Petra Sansa while UNRA Executive Director, Allen Kagina represents UNRA.
