Former Pader NRM Chairman Arrested over Stolen Cows

Anonymous sources reveal that Oyat with unidentified people allegedly intoxicated the cattle before stealing 42 animals belonging to Daniel Munejero.

Police has arrested the former Pader District NRM Chairman George Oyat Obwoya in connection with the disappearance of 30 herds of cattle.

The animals were allegedly stolen on Saturday from a kraal in Olam village, Pukor parish, Ogom Sub-county.

Anonymous sources reveal that Oyat with unidentified people allegedly intoxicated the cattle before stealing 42 animals belonging to Daniel Munejero. 

The sources further revealed that after recovering, the cattle keepers trailed the animals up to Pader Town Council where 30 of them were reportedly loaded on to a truck and driven away.

However, 12 cows were recovered.

According to Charles Olum Walumbe, the Lagwayi Zone A LC1 Chairperson the herdsmen reported the matter to police under case file CRB/389/18.

Obwoya, who has been evading arrest, was on Wednesday picked by police from his hideout on Wednesday evening. His wife Rose Adong was also arrested to aid investigations.

Grace Nyangooma the Pader District Police Commander declined to comment on the matter.

Some sources who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity, however, disclosed that there is already interference on the matter. 

The suspect is son to Col. Fearless Obwoya, the former Kitgum district Coordinator, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) who was sacked in June.

Obwoya who was NRM party Chairman 2011-2016 has been at the center of other controversies in Pader. He was once arrested for allegedly stealing goats.
