Former State Minister Philip Byaruhanga Dead

Byaruhanga, who loved promoting careful living among young people, will be buried at Katasenywa in Nyangahya Division, Masindi Municipality, on a date to be announced.

Former Minister of State and Member of Parliament, Dr Philip Bazaale Byaruhanga has died.

The 74-year-old medical professional, politician and businessman passed on on Tuesday evening at Nakasero Hospital where he had been admitted for a few days after complaining of chest-related complications.

Eng Nebert Bazaale Wobusobozi, his younger brother, confirmed the death on behalf of family members gathered around, giving no further details until a medical report was issued.

Dr Byaruhanga worked in different capacities at Mulago Hospital and the Ministry of Health, while running private clinics on Pilkington Road Kampala and along Kijunjubwa Road in Masindi Municipality.

He ventured into politics in the early days of the NRM represented Buruuli County in the National Resistance Council (NRC) and went on to represent the constituency until he lost the NRM primaries in 2005.

Dr Byaruhanga was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni to different cabinet positions as state minister in the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Information and the Office of the Vice Presidency.

He was also chairman of the board of the National Medical Stores for five years until 2018.

Dr Byaruhanga lost his younger brother, Dr Joshua B Musinguzi, the former Programme Manager at the Aids Control Programme of the Ministry of Health, to heart complications.
