According to Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander, the suspects were found in possession of stolen items, including motor vehicle tires, tubes, and a fridge, which were reportedly stolen from a shop that was broken into on April 19, 2025. The incident had been reported to the Kitgum Central Police Station.
The police in Kitgum have arrested four suspects believed to be behind a string of house break-ins in Kitgum Municipality. The suspects, Francis Olanya, Benson Ochola, George Okutu, and James Odongo, were arrested on Easter Monday from different locations within the Municipality.
According to Peter Oyesigye, the Kitgum District Police Commander, the suspects were found in possession of stolen items, including motor vehicle tires, tubes, and a fridge, which were reportedly stolen from a shop that was broken into on Saturday.
The suspects were arrested after they attempted to sell the stolen items to a resident who tipped off the police. Oyesigye revealed that the fifth suspect is still on the run, with the arrested suspects implicating him in the crime. They claim that the missing TV screen is with him.
Oyesigye commended the residents for their swift action in tipping police, leading to the arrest of the suspects, saying this arrest is part of the police efforts to curb crime in the district.
He disclosed that the suspects face charges related to theft, possession of stolen property and Burglary.
