Four bodies have been recovered from the rubbles of the two-storied building that collapsed in Jinja town.

The dead have been identified as Dennis Muhoofa 28 years, Saad Basalirwa aged 18, and Joseph Isabirye. The identity of the fourth victim is yet to be established.

The building located on Plot 17 Gokhale Road collapsed on Wednesday leaving scores  trapped.

The recovery of the bodies brings the number of people who died from the building to six.

The operation to search for any survivors trapped in the rubble resumed on Thursday morning.

It’s being carried out by two bulldozers from the UPDF and one grader from the Ministry of works.

Swaibu Walubo a supervisor at the collapsed building says that 45 people reported for duty on Wednesday.

“We were about 45 registered employees yesterday, and of these four have been confirmed dead, 14 are in different hospitals but the rest are still missing,” he says.

Diana Nandawula, the Kiira region police spokesperson says that the rescue process is still on-going to ensure that nobody is left under the rubbles.

The collapse of the building was attributed to poor workmanship. The building was also under construction without the supervision from the municipal authorities.
