Her Worship Tabaruka remanded Ahumuza, Akankwasa, and Akanyijuka to Ndorwa government prison. She also remanded Tumukunde to Kabale remand home on the basis that he is still a juvenile (below 18 years) who needs rehabilitation. The suspects will re-appear before the court on February 7, this year.

Four people accused of gang defiling a 13-year-old
girl in Kabale district on Christmas day have been charged and remanded.
Davis Akankwasa Kehoda, Allan Akanyijuka, Moses Sendarera
Tumukunde, and Norman Ahumuza Kanuma, all residents of Kasheregyenyi parish,
Kamuganguzi sub-county in Kabale district on December 25, 2022, at around 8 PM gang allegedly defiled the minor at Nyakasharara trading center in Kyarugondo village.
The victim was defiled until she became unconscious. She was
rushed to Kabale regional referral hospital but died on arrival. The suspects were arrested the day after and have this Monday afternoon when they were arraigned before the court.
Appearing before the Grade One Magistrates Court, the suspects
were charged with murder contrary to section 189 and defilement contrary to
section 123 (l) of the penal code act.
Her worship Rachael Tabaruka, the Kabale Grade
One Magistrate declined to hear the suspects' plea or any comment on anything arguing
that the magnitude of the case is very heavy and is beyond her jurisdiction.
She
says that the case can only be heard by the High Court.

Elias Twesigomwe, Kamuganguzi sub county LC3 Chairman says
that this is the first incident in the sub-county where a minor is a gang defiled
to death. Twesigwomwe welcomed the
remanding of the suspects saying that it is his wish that they are given a heavy
sentence once found guilty.
