Four Dokolo Officials Held Over Alleged Embezzlement of UGX 700M

During the hearing, Dr. Sam Ojok, the Dokolo District Health Officer also revealed that in June 2018 the district health department received Shillings 112 million without his notice. Dr.Sam Ojok, the District Health Officer, told the team under the command of Col.Edith Nakalema that in June 2018, a total of 112 million shillings was sent to the district health department account without his notice.

Four Dokolo district officials spent Wednesday night in the cells at Lira Central Police Station for alleged embezzlement of more than Shillings 700 million.

They are Thomas Kodeos Okello, the Dokolo District Engineer, Alex Ongom, the Acting Chief Financial Officer, Alfred Tommy Ongom, the Internal Auditor and Henry Ajwang, the Accountant in the Works Department.

The officials were picked up from a public hearing conducted by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit under the command of Col. Edith Nakalema at Dokolo District headquarters.  

They are accused of embezzling over Shillings 700M meant to finance various activities in the Health, Education and Works sectors among others.  

They are also accused of mismanaging funds to rehabilitating Acandyang-Otururao road stretch in Okwongodul Sub County measuring about 1.2km at the cost of Shillings 407M.  

Organ Construction LTD was contracted to handle the road works at Shillings 407M. 

However, Shillings 141M was diverted from the project for other activities without approval of the district council.        

During the hearing, Dr. Sam Ojok, the Dokolo District Health Officer also revealed that in June 2018 the district health department received Shillings 112 million without his notice.  

He however, said that two months later again without his notice Shillings 59 million of the Shillings 112 million was withdrawn from the account of the health department.

Joel Onyango, the head teacher Bataebwol Primary School in Adeknino Sub County also told the unit that a three classroom block was built at his school at the cost of Shillings 11 million without lightning arresters.

Col. Nakalema ordered for the interrogation of several officials including Dr. Sam Ojok, the District Health Officer, David Eryatu, the District Inspector of Schools, Denis Achol, an Account Assistant in the Health Department, Scovia Alupot, a senior Accounts Assistant in the production department and Joel Onyango, the head teacher Bataebwol Primary School.
