Police in Rubirizi are still hunting for four suspects who escaped from the cells at Rubirizi police station on Monday.
At least seven inmates had escaped from the cells but three of the escapees were re-arrested shortly after.
The mid south western police commander, Hillary Kulayigye confirmed the escape and told journalists in Bushenyi town that Rubirizi police detectives were working around the clock to see that the four escapees are re are re-arrested.
Kulayigye said police at the station relaxed and the seven ran away. The police constables followed them and re-arrested three.
Kulayigye added that being a new police station in a new district, the police cells are weak and therefore easy for the prisoners to break. The building is being used by the inmates and police staff as offices.
Towards Christmas last year, the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura suspended two top officers, DPC Milly Nyakato and the officer in charge of traffic Henry Mafabi. The two were accused of mounting illegal road blocks in the night and extortion.
