Kikuube district was curved out of Hoima and became operational on July 1, 2018. Since then the district has been operating without the political wing.

Last year a section of Kikuube councilors rejected a proposal to have interim elections but later last month they reversed their decision and wrote to the Electoral Commission saying lack of the political wing was greatly affecting service delivery in the area.

They requested the electoral commission should organize an interim elections.
