Umar Asiimwe Rubambansi at Itaaba Palace
The self-proclaimed Ankole King, Umar Asiimwe Rubambansi is expected to meet his opponents later today in a fresh mediation attempt directed by Mbarara High court. Court ordered for fresh mediation following the failure by those opposed to Rubambansi's claim to the throne to show up for the previous meeting scheduled for June 13, 2018.

The mediation stems from an application by Phillip Musiime challenging Rubambansi's claim to the Ankole throne. In his application, Musiime wants Court to stop Rubambansi's activities at his palace at Itaaba in Rwampara County, saying he isn't the right crown prince of Ankole.

He contends that the legitimate crown Prince of Ankole is Rwebishengye, the son to the late crown prince, John Barigye. However, Mbarara High Court advised the two parties to settle the matter through mediation.  Court appointed Suwaya Matovu as the arbiter of the conflict.

Max Muhumuza, the Spokesperson of Ankole Kingdom, says their team led by Prince Rubambansi is ready for the mediation talks, saying they want the matter resolved once and for all. Bright Muhumaza, the Mbarara Municipality County Chief under Ankole Kingdom, says they are committed to upholding the law and ensuring harmonious living, adding that they will continue following the same path.

Our reporter was unable to speak to the Suwaya Matovu and the petitioner, Phillip Musiime ahead of the meeting as they couldn't be reached by the time of filing this story.
