The FUFA technical committee has named the Uganda Cranes team that will face Zambia on March 5th in an International friendly.

The match will be played at the Levi Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The technical committee on Monday morning named a strong 25-man squad that comprises mainly of professional players to start training this coming weekend ahead of the game. Youthful striker Junior Yunus Ssentamu, who netted three goals in the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) and was recently in South Africa for trails with AmaZulu, has not been called.

Mujib Kasule, the FUFA Vice Present in-charge of the League and chairman of the technical committee, told URN that Ssentamu has not been invited because he has not settled since he has just returned from trials with a club in South Africa.

The game will be the first friendly match for the Uganda Cranes this year as they begin preparations for the upcoming international fixtures. The Cranes will start in the preliminary stage for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

Kasule also explained that Tanzania-based striker Brian Umony had been left out because he has just returned from a long injury, while former AIK winger Martin Kayongo Mutumba has not been active with his new club Caykur Rizespor because his transfer paper work had not been complete.

He said since most of the players summoned on the squad are professionals, they will connect straight to Zambia and have their first training together as a team on March 3. Skipper Andrew Mwesigwa who features for Ordabasy in Khazakstan and Tony Mawejje who recently joined Norway’s Haugesund, are also part of the squad.
