FUFA Sets Aug 19th For Resumption of Uganda Cup

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations-FUFA has set August 19, 2021, for the resumption of the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup. 

According to the draws conducted by former Express FC player, Fred Tamale at FUFA House on Monday morning, Police FC will face Vipers SC in the first Semifinal while BUL FC will face Express FC in the second game.  

All games will take place between August 19 and 31st, 2021. FUFA’s Competition Director, Aisha Nalule, says that both semifinals will take place at the respective home grounds of the teams involved. However, all matches will take place behind closed doors as directed by the president.

Traditionally, the champions of Uganda Cup qualify to represent Uganda in the CAF Confederations cup. However, already picked URA FC to represent Uganda in the continental tournament before the completion of the tournament that was disrupted by the lockdown announced to contain the second wave of COVID-19.

FUFA Deputy CEO in Charge of Football, Decolas Kiiza explained that they decided to select URA to meet the deadline.

Kiiza thanked the Government for allowing the resumption of sports in the country.  

“It is quite a while since we have been out of football competition. I want to take this opportunity to thank the government of Uganda specifically president Museveni for having seen it fit to lift the lockdown on sports activities and enable us to complete this particular competition,” Kiiza said.

Proline FC are the defending champions of Uganda cup after winning the 2018/19 championship when they beat Bright Stars FC. Express FC and KCCA FC are the record winners of the competition with 10 titles each followed by SC Villa with nine trophies.

Stanbic Bank took over the naming rights of Uganda cup in 2018 after boosting the tournament with a sponsorship package of 300 million Shillings.
