Mujib Kasule, the FUFA Vice President in-charge of the league told Uganda Radio Network on Sunday evening that they are going to write to UBL asking them which league they are going to sponsor.
The sponsors last week gave FUFA an ultimatum of September 10 to explain the issues surrounding who is in-charge of the league. However, sources have told URN that the brewers have continued to make arrangements and release money to USLL to have the league kick-off on September 14 and co-sponsors Supersport are also ready to cover the matches live.
UBL’s managing Director, Alasdair Musselwhite wrote on September 4 to FUFA and USLL pointing out that as much as they are committed to supporting and investing in football in Uganda, they are concerned by the disjointed views of USLL on the one hand, club chairmen and FUFA on the other as to who will run the league sponsored by them.
But Kasule said they have already communicated to UBL the transition that has taken place and they will also ask the sponsors where they belong.
In his letter Musselwhite had explained that their continued sponsorship of the league will be premised upon an orderly transfer of the duties, rights and obligations of USLL who they originally signed the contract with to the successor FUFA Super League Limited (FSLL) and strict adherence to the rights of the title sponsor (UBL) and broadcast partner Super Sport.
But members at USLL led by Kavuma Kabenge and Fred Muwema have always told FUFA that the only way this transfer could have been done was in the legal channels and not simply hijacking.
Another source however disclosed that UBL is also unhappy that FUFA decided to bring a rival company Nile Breweries Limited (NBL) to sponsor the national team immediately after pushing UBL to remove the clause in their contract that barred them from having a rival company sponsor football.
UBL also sponsor the Bell Uganda Cup knock out competition.
