Gov't Delivers Relief Items to Displaced Apaa Residents

Wilson Acuma, the Chairperson of Apaa Community Disaster Management Committee says preparations have commenced preparations to distribute the consignment among the 234 people.
Government has delivered a consignment of assorted relief items to residents displaced from the disputed Apaa Township into the United Nations Compound in Gulu Town.

Trucks which goods from the stores of the office of the Prime Minister arrived in Amuru district headquarters on Wednesday. They were received by Martin Kiplangat, the Amuru District Chief Administrative Officer.

Kiplangat says the consignment includes 10,000 Kilograms of maize flour, 300 pieces of tarpaulins, 300 jerry cans and 300 basins. He says his office has already dispatched the items to the affected communities.

In July, 234 people took refuge at United Nations compound in Gulu town citing destruction of their homes and livelihoods, human rights violations as well as arbitrary arrests and killings amongst others.

They vacated the compound in August to pave way for a Presidential Committee to resolve the longstanding dispute after government assured them of their safety.

Last week, the Acholi delegation to the Presidential committee asked Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda to supply relief to the affected people to facilitate their settlement back home.

Wilson Acuma, the Chairperson of Apaa Community Disaster Management Committee says preparations to distribute the consignment among the 234 people has commenced.

Kilak North Member of Parliament Anthony Akol says they tasked community leaders to prioritize the needs of the most vulnerable people to make their lives comfortable.
