The floods affected 50 villages with an estimated population of 30, 000 people when Rivers Namalu, Amaler and Kocol-kokoi burst their banks causing devastating floods that submerged houses and swept away property.
At least 1, 500 who were affected by floods in Namalu
Sub County in Nakapiripirit district have received relief from the government. Early this month, the floods affected 50 villages when Rivers Namalu, Amaler
and Kocol-kokoi burst their banks submerging houses and destroying property.
On Sunday, the Office of the Prime Minister delivered 20 tonnes of maize flour, beans, and 70 tarpaulins, blankets and 200 jerricans
for the affected families.
The support by government has excited the beneficiaries. John Lomer who
received 15kilograms of maize flour 5 kilograms of beans among other items has lauded the
government for giving a ray of hope to them. He says most families could barely
afford a meal or bedding after losing all their property to floods.

Agnes Itoot and Lomer want the government to help them with
building materials such as iron sheets and cement so that they can construct
structures that are resistant to future disasters.

Esther Anyakun, the Woman Member of Parliament for Nakapiripirit district has
advised the affected community not to return to their homes until its safe.

David Modo the RDC Nakapiripirit told URN that OPM was due to deliver another
consignment comprising blankets and tarpaulins to assist more
families that did not receive these items during the on-going distribution.
