Gulu City Councilors Approve 12 Nominees to Board, Commission

The Gulu City mayor, Alfred Okwonga, who presented the names of the nominees, said that he carried out a thorough background check on the nominees and is confident that they will perform to the best of their abilities.

Gulu City Council has approved 12 nominees for appointment to the City Land Board, City Service Commission and Public Accounts Committee.  

The approved nominees include Arthur Owor as the Chairman of Gulu City Land Board and Martina Acayo Okello, Dr. Freddy Wathum Oyat Drinkwater and Patrick Tommy Odida as board members.

Also approved is Michael Ochora as the Chairman of Gulu City Service Commission, Lilly Piloya Okot, Janet Ayat Nyeko and Boris Canrac as the members of the commission. 

The council also approved Willy Sebastian Okello, Peninah Lamunu, Hellen Auma Opwonya and George Ocaya Onen as members of the Public Accounts Committee. 

 

On July 15th, 2021, the council approved George Obwona as a member of Gulu City Service Commission, Henry Komakech Kilama as a member of Gulu City Land Board and Charles Onen as a member of the Public Accounts Committee.

The Gulu City mayor, Alfred Okwonga, who presented the names of the nominees, said that he carried out a thorough background check on the nominees and is confident that they will perform to the best of their abilities.

Andrew Ogwetta Otto, the Pece –Laroo Division North councillor faulted the Mayor for not giving the council ample to deliberate on the nominees in the council. He said that councillors learnt about the particulars of the nominees, just thirty minutes to the council meeting.

Joyce Alima, the Gulu City Council Speaker cautioned the nominees against corruption and nepotism while executing their tasks.

Moses Otimong, the Gulu City Clerk says the minutes of the full council shall be prepared and submitted next week to the line ministries for final approval of the nominees.
