Gulu Hospital Mortuary is stuck with four unclaimed bodies.

The mortuary can only accommodate six bodies at a time. Currently, the mortuary is struggling to keep four bodies which remain unclaimed since April.

Paul Ajur, the Senior Hospital Administrator says they are under pressure to hand over the unclaimed bodies to Gulu Municipal Council for burial in the Municipal Cemetery to create room for other bodies.

Ajur said although the hospital Mortuary was built to accommodate remains of people who die from the hospital, it has been turned into a municipal morgue for storing bodies found dumped in different parts of the town.

According to Ajur, the influx of bodies from outside the hospital has overwhelmed the hospital morgue as police collects bodies from different parts of Aswa River Region for post-mortem.

George Oroma, the hospital's mortuary attendant says the crisis for space is as a result of delays by Gulu Municipality to collect unclaimed bodies for burial.

The hospital is also currently under pressure about how bodies are kept at the mortuary.

This follows the disappearance of the remains of Cosmas Adyebo Oola, aged 58 on Thursday.

The remains have been traced to Atiak Sub County where it is said to have been buried. The disappearance was discovered on Thursday after relatives went to collect it for burial.
